The choice of plane and camera depends on the type of photographs or video to be taken. For aerial photography of landscapes I use an electric powered glider as it is designed for stability and slow speed. It can stay airborne without the motor running for relatively long periods which minimises vibrations while pitcures are taken. With a powered glider you can achieve several ascents and descents during a flight and have a good degree of control over positioning the plane for the desired shot.
While a multi-rotor drone can be used for landscape photos, it is particularly good at closer shots of buildings and points of interest as it can be maneuvered more precisely to a specific point and kept realtively stationary while the photograph is taken.
Below you can links for more information about the aircraft and cameras I use. Click on one of the pictures below to find out more.
Radian
A popular electric glider made by Parkzone, the Radian has a 2m wingspan and very good flight
characteristics. This glider is well suited to taking general landscape aerial photographs and
breaks down in to parts that can be carried in a sholder carrier making it a good choice to take
on walks or for transport to locations that are inaccessible by car.
Skywalker
The Skywalker was one of the first planes designed with aerial photography in mind. With a 1.8m
wingspan it has the ability to easily carry small photo and video cameras as well a large battery
for prolonged flight times. With plenty of room inside the fuselage and a 'pusher' configuration
with the propeller behind the wing it is ideal for aerial photography.
Cameras and Equipment
Finding the right camera is key to being able to capture the images you are looking for.
But as with the choice of aircraft, there are a number of factors to consider such as weight and size.
There are also a range of features that can be added such as control of the camera and video down-links
that can aid in the process of capturing great shots.
Information about aircraft I have used in the past but have been retired can be found here.
